HUNTSVILLE, Texas — In an exciting matchup on Thursday evening, Lamar Wilkerson led the way with 29 points as Sam Houston secured a narrow victory over Jacksonville State, finishing the game at 66-61.
Wilkerson displayed a remarkable shooting performance, going 11 for 17 from the field, with an impressive 6 for 9 from three-point range. His efforts were crucial in helping the Bearkats, who now hold a record of 9-16 and 2-10 in Conference USA, snap a challenging seven-game losing streak. Additionally, Marcus Boykin contributed significantly to the team’s effort with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Kalifa Sakho finished the game shooting an efficient 6 of 7, also totaling 12 points.
On the other side, Jacksonville State’s Jaron Pierre Jr. was the standout performer, accumulating 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals. Jao Ituka further helped the Gamecocks, adding 10 points to the scoreboard. Unfortunately for Jacksonville State, which now holds a record of 17-8 and 9-3 in their conference, this loss marked the end of their impressive eight-game winning streak.
