In Highlands Ranch, a tragic incident unfolded Saturday night at an arcade and entertainment center when a man lost his life after being shot by a deputy responding to reports of an active shooter. According to authorities, the confrontation occurred at the Main Event location in suburban Denver.

Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy encountered the man in the parking lot, where he was armed with a handgun. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly stated that the man refused to comply with multiple commands to relinquish his weapon. The situation escalated when the man reportedly turned towards the deputy, leading to the deputy discharging his firearm.

Investigators later determined that earlier in the evening, a woman had been shot inside the venue by another female. Sheriff Weekly indicated that the man shot by the deputy was believed to have some connection to that earlier incident. Fortunately, the woman who was injured is expected to make a full recovery, and a 23-year-old woman identified as a suspect was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement.

Sheriff Weekly emphasized that the outcome of the night could have been significantly worse, given the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Main Event is known for providing a range of entertainment options, including bowling, laser tag, mini-golf, and arcade games, and it was bustling with patrons at the time of the event.
