WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, Monmouth University clinched a 68-63 victory against Hampton, largely thanks to standout performances from several players.
Madison Durr led the Hawks with 18 points, showcasing an impressive shooting performance, connecting on 5 of 11 attempts from the field and converting 8 out of 10 from the charity stripe. Her teammate, Cornelius Robinson Jr., contributed significantly as well, finishing the game with 16 points on an efficient 7 of 10 shooting, alongside two successful free throws and eight rebounds. Abdi Bashir Jr. also played a notable role, scoring 11 points, with a shooting line of 3 for 10 overall, including 1 of 4 from beyond the arc, and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line.
For Hampton, Daniel Johnson was the leading scorer with 18 points, making a notable impact in the game. Noah Farrakhan added 10 points and registered three steals, while Kyrese Mullen played a significant role on the boards with nine points and a noteworthy 15 rebounds.
The first half concluded with Monmouth holding a 42-34 lead over Hampton. Robinson was particularly effective during this period, scoring 12 points and helping his team maintain momentum. In the second half, Monmouth extended their lead with a 7-0 scoring run, pushing the advantage to 57-45.
Both teams are set to return to action on Saturday, with Monmouth gearing up to host Towson while Hampton will be heading to Northeastern for their next game.
