Milan – On Tuesday, several politicians in Italy called for officials to investigate a hunting excursion involving Donald Trump Jr. that allegedly resulted in the death of a protected duck species near Venice.

Andrea Zanoni, a member of the Europa Verde party from the Veneto region, cited a video from the Field Ethos website—an outlet for male adventurers founded by Trump—which features him on a recent hunting trip in the wetlands of Valle Pierimpie’ adjacent to the Venice Lagoon.

In the video, Trump is seen beside a deceased duck that Zanoni has identified as a ruddy shelduck, a species that is protected throughout Europe. According to Zanoni, killing this bird constitutes a criminal offense in Italy.

Although the video, which has been circulated by Italian media, does not specify who was responsible for the duck’s death, it is noteworthy that Trump was in Italy in December during which time a Christmas tree was observed. The precise date of the hunt remains unclear.

Zanoni has urged the legislators in Veneto to coordinate with Luana Zanella, a Greens representative in Italy’s lower house, to take the matter further with the country’s environment minister. He also called for the suspension or revocation of the permits for the wildlife hunting company that organized the excursion.

In Italy, hunting regulations are stringent, with non-residents only permitted to hunt on private reserves.

A representative for Trump stated that the hunting party possessed the necessary permits and was in an area legally designated for hunting, where there were numerous other hunting groups present at the same time. The spokesperson, Andy Surabian, noted, “While it’s unclear whether this single duck was unintentionally shot by someone in Don’s hunting group, another hunting group, or killed in a different manner and retrieved by the group’s hunting dog, Don takes following all rules, regulations, and conservation on his hunts very seriously and plans on fully cooperating with any investigation.”
