In a significant move, the Philadelphia Union announced the sale of 21-year-old midfielder Jack McGlynn to the Houston Dynamo for a starting fee of $2.1 million on Monday.
The Union also indicated that they could receive an additional $1.3 million based on certain performance metrics related to McGlynn’s future contributions on the field.
Furthermore, the Philadelphia club will retain a percentage of any future transfer fees if McGlynn is sold again.
McGlynn, who made his debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2021, recently represented the U.S. national team for the first time in January 2024.
His impressive career includes being part of the U.S. Olympic team last year, showcasing his talent on an international level.
This trade marks one of the first player-for-cash transactions in MLS, a practice that began just last month.
The inaugural deal under this new trading approach involved the LA Galaxy, who transferred forward Dejan Jovelji? to Sporting Kansas City for a notable amount of $4 million.
