Milan acquires Giménez from Feyenoord, striker may compete against old team next week

MILAN — AC Milan has finalized the acquisition of Santiago Giménez from Feyenoord as of Monday, with the Mexican forward set to potentially clash with his former team next week.

The club announced that Giménez has signed a contract lasting until the end of June 2029. Reports from Italian media suggest that the transfer fee stands at 30 million euros (approximately $31 million), with additional bonuses included.

Having attended the Milan derby at San Siro on Sunday, Giménez is expected to make his first appearance in Wednesday’s Italian cup quarterfinal against Roma. He is also poised for a prompt revisit to Rotterdam, as Milan is scheduled to face Feyenoord in the Champions League knockout round playoffs starting next Wednesday, with the return leg set for the following week. The victorious team will earn 11 million euros and a coveted spot in the round of 16.

“Our decisions thus far have been aimed at enhancing the squad,” stated Zlatan Ibrahimovi?, Milan’s advisor and former striker.

“He’s as exceptional as Ibra, although on a different tier. We have been monitoring him for a while and sought to bring him in last July, but it wasn’t feasible at that time. Now we have made a significant investment to secure his services. He is driven and eager to contribute.”

Since his arrival from Cruz Azul in 2022, Giménez has made a remarkable impact, scoring 65 goals in 105 appearances for Feyenoord. In the current season of 2025, he has already netted six goals in five games.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old has found the net four times across 32 caps for the Mexican national team. Giménez will don the number seven jersey, previously held by Álvaro Morata, who has transitioned to Galatasaray on loan.

In other news, former Milan captain Davide Calabria has moved to Bologna on loan until the season’s close.

Calabria has been a vital part of Milan for 18 years, having progressed through their youth system before making his Serie A debut in 2015. At 28 years old, the defender has never played for another organization.

Since taking on the captaincy in 2022, shortly after leading the team to a league championship, Calabria’s journey includes lifting the Italian Super Cup trophy in Riyadh last month. However, he lost the captaincy soon after, with the armband transferred to goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Calabria has also represented Italy in seven matches but has not been called up to the national team since 2022.
