KYIV, Ukraine — In a recently reported incident, the city of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk region, which has been under Ukrainian control for the past five months, became the backdrop for a tragic attack on a boarding school. Both Ukraine and Russia have exchanged accusations regarding responsibility for the strike, leading to conflicting narratives over the event.

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff, four individuals lost their lives, and another four sustained serious injuries from the attack. Efforts by Ukrainian servicemen resulted in the rescue of 84 individuals trapped beneath the rubble of the boarding school. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that the assault targeted civilians who were using the facility as shelter while preparing for evacuation.

The General Staff further noted that those requiring urgent medical attention were transported to healthcare facilities in Ukraine. On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense asserted that the missile attack was initiated by Ukrainian forces and claimed that the missiles were launched from the Sumy region of Ukraine.

Amid these developments, local officials reported that the death toll from a Russian missile strike on an apartment building in Poltava, Ukraine, has increased to 14, which includes the tragic deaths of two children. Seventeen others were reported injured following the attack on the five-story residential structure, as stated by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

In addition to these incidents, Moscow reportedly deployed 55 drones into Ukraine overnight into Sunday. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the destruction of 40 of these drones during the assault, while 13 others were deemed “lost,” likely due to electronic jamming efforts.

In the Kharkiv region, two individuals suffered injuries during a drone attack early Sunday morning, as reported by regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Later in the day, five people were wounded when a Russian drone struck a bus in the city of Kherson, according to local Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

On the Russian side, the Defense Ministry reported that five Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across five western regions of Russia. This included three drones shot down over the Kursk region, and one each over the Belgorod and Bryansk regions. Additionally, a tragic incident was reported in the Belgorod region, where regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that a man was killed in a drone strike.
