OTTAWA, Ontario — Shane Pinto netted the decisive goal midway through the third period, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Tim Stutzle also contributed with a goal for the Senators, who snapped a two-game losing streak, both of which were scoreless defeats. Goaltender Anton Forsberg made an impressive 28 saves throughout the match.

For the Maple Leafs, Bobby McMann found the net, with Joseph Woll stopping 21 shots, as Toronto faced their second consecutive loss.

Pinto broke the tie with 9:13 left in the game when Matthew Highmore’s pass unintentionally deflected off his knee and into the net.

McMann opened the scoring for Toronto early in the game, netting his 14th goal of the season just 3:46 after the puck dropped.

Stutzle responded for Ottawa, equalizing the score at 1-1 with just under ten minutes remaining in the first period, effectively ending the team’s scoring drought which had lasted 147 minutes and 53 seconds.

Travis Hamonic made his return to the Senators’ lineup after sitting out 10 games due to a lower-body injury.

In terms of key performances, Woll was crucial for the Maple Leafs, delivering an important save against Drake Batherson in the second period to maintain the tie. Meanwhile, the Senators showed a notable improvement in their defense when it was most critical, managing to thwart the Maple Leafs’ offensive efforts.

A pivotal moment occurred early in the third when Ottawa’s Tyler Kleven prevented a goal by blocking Nick Robertson’s shot as it approached the goal line.

In a noteworthy statistic, Forsberg tied Ray Emery’s record for the most starts by a goaltender with 122 for the Senators.

Looking ahead, the Maple Leafs will take on Minnesota at home on Wednesday, while the Senators are set to face Utah at their home venue on Sunday.
