BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Keylor Navas, the former goalkeeper of renowned clubs Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has signed with the Argentinian team Newell’s Old Boys on a free transfer as of Wednesday.
The 38-year-old, who has recently stepped back from international competition, boasts an impressive record, having secured three UEFA Champions League titles during his tenure at Real Madrid. However, Navas has not participated in any matches since concluding his time with Paris Saint-Germain last May.
In a message shared on his social media platforms, Navas expressed his enthusiasm for this new phase, stating, “Thank God we are returning to the pitch. I feel ready, willing, and very happy to take on this new challenge.”
Newell’s Old Boys, located in Rosario—a city situated 300 kilometers (approximately 186 miles) northeast of Buenos Aires—is widely recognized as the childhood club of superstar Lionel Messi.
The club referred to Navas as an “international legend” on their social media, highlighting his experience in the last three World Cup tournaments representing Costa Rica.
Details regarding the duration of Navas’s contract with Newell’s remain undisclosed at this time.
