Leverkusen striker Martin Terrier sidelined for the season due to ankle injury

LEVERKUSEN, Germany — Bayer Leverkusen has announced that their forward, Martin Terrier, will not return to play for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.
A recent MRI revealed that Terrier has suffered a torn Achilles tendon, an injury he incurred during the early moments of Saturday’s match where Leverkusen triumphed over Borussia Mönchengladbach with a score of 3-1.

The club confirmed that Terrier, who was acquired from Rennes this past summer for a fee estimated at 20 million euros (approximately $22 million), is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday.
“This is a significant setback for both Martin and the club,” stated Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting director. He also mentioned that fellow teammate Charles Aránguiz has successfully returned to peak form following a similar injury.

Before the details of Terrier’s injury were fully understood, Leverkusen’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, indicated that they might need to seek a replacement player. “I never rule out the possibility of adding new talent to the squad. We will need to evaluate our options,” Alonso remarked.

Currently, Leverkusen is experiencing a strong performance streak, having won their last 11 matches across all competitions. They are positioned four points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, with the two teams set to clash in Leverkusen on February 15.
