CLEMSON, S.C. — Ian Schieffelin showcased an impressive performance with 21 points, hitting 8 of his 10 attempts from the field on Saturday night as Clemson defeated California 80-68.
Chase Hunter contributed significantly with 19 points, ensuring the team maintained control of the game. He recorded 8 of 12 shooting along with six assists and five rebounds, while Chauncey Wiggins added 15 points, going 7 for 10. With this victory, Clemson improved their record to 12-3 overall and continued their unbeaten streak in the Atlantic Coast Conference at 4-0.
California, struggling in recent games, fell to 7-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play, marking their third straight loss and sixth in their last seven outings.
Andrej Stojakovic led the Bears with a remarkable game, scoring 30 points on 11 of 15 shooting. Stojakovic, who is the son of former NBA All-Star Peja Stojakovic, previously scored a career-high 31 points in a win against Northwestern State prior to this matchup.
In a crucial moment of the first half, Stojakovic scored Cal’s last six points in a 10-3 run that tied the game at 25 with just over six minutes remaining. However, Wiggins promptly responded, retaking the lead for the Tigers. Jeremiah Wilkinson’s three-pointer just before halftime, followed by another from Stojakovic, closed the half with Clemson leading by a narrow margin of 39-36.
DJ Campbell started the second half with a jumper that brought Cal within one point, but Hunter quickly answered with a three-pointer to push Clemson ahead. Jaeden Zackery also added a layup shortly after to extend the Tigers’ lead to 44-38.
Midway through the second half, Hunter played a pivotal role in a 12-4 run that extended Clemson’s advantage to 12 points, which California could not recover from.
Overall, Clemson displayed excellent shooting, finishing the game with a season-best 62% from the floor, making 31 out of 50 attempts. For California, Jovan Blacksher Jr. was a bright spot, netting 13 of his 15 points in the second half, while Wilkinson contributed 11 points to the team’s total.
