ATLANTA — In an impressive display, Georgia Tech defeated Boston College with a score of 85-64 on Saturday, thanks in large part to the contributions of Lance Terry and Javian McCollum, who each poured in 20 points. Naithan George also made a significant impact on the game, achieving a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
The Yellow Jackets managed a strong first half, shooting 61% from the field and converting 7 of their 11 attempts from three-point territory. This solid performance allowed them to establish a 13-point lead going into halftime. Although their three-point shooting faltered in the second half, where they made only 1 of 6 attempts, Georgia Tech’s overall shooting remained impressive, finishing at 59% for the game.
Boston College started the game positively, with Elijah Strong getting things underway with a three-pointer. Donald Hand Jr. also added a jumper and a layup that briefly put the Eagles ahead 11-7. Strong later scored two free throws, giving Boston College a 15-14 lead. However, Georgia Tech quickly regained control with a 9-2 scoring run and then extended their advantage with a 10-0 run to lead 40-24 just before halftime.
Terry led the Yellow Jackets not only in scoring but also contributed defensively with four steals and three assists. McCollum, coming off the bench, provided four assists and two steals, further bolstering the team’s performance. Additional support came from Baye Ndongo, who contributed 14 points, and Duncan Powell, who added 11 points along with five rebounds.
On the other side, Chad Venning was the standout for Boston College, scoring 19 points while securing eight rebounds. The Eagles ended the game with a field goal percentage of 43%, including a 5 of 15 mark from beyond the arc. Strong concluded his day with 16 points and six rebounds to aid his team’s efforts.
Looking ahead, Georgia Tech is set to face Syracuse on Tuesday, while Boston College will host the Orange on Saturday.
