WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Abdi Bashir Jr. delivered an impressive performance, scoring 31 points as Monmouth triumphed over Stony Brook with a final score of 78-56, marking the start of their Coastal Athletic Conference journey on Thursday evening.

Bashir showcased his shooting skills, connecting on 12 of 18 attempts from the field, including a remarkable 7 of 10 from beyond the arc. His strong performance helped the Hawks, now at 3 wins and 11 losses overall and 1-0 in the conference, establish a solid lead. Additionally, Jack Collins contributed nine points and secured three rebounds, finishing with a shooting percentage of 60%. Meanwhile, Cornelius Robinson Jr. and Dok Muordar each added eight points to the scoreboard.

For the Seawolves, who dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-1 in the conference, Joseph Octave led the team with 15 points, while Nick Woodard made a valuable contribution with 12 points.

Monmouth seized control of the game with 13:01 left in the first half and maintained their lead throughout. Bashir was instrumental in this effort, netting 11 points in the first half, allowing Monmouth to take a comfortable 37-25 advantage into halftime. He continued his dominance in the second half, scoring an additional 20 points and helping the Hawks outscore Stony Brook by 10 points in that period to secure the win.
