GREENBORO, N.C. — In an exciting matchup on Thursday night, the Elon Phoenix achieved a 75-67 victory over North Carolina A&T, fueled largely by TJ Simpkins, who contributed 19 points to the team’s success.
Simpkins also grabbed seven rebounds, showcasing his all-around ability for Elon (10-4, 1-0 Coastal Athletic Association). His performance was bolstered by Nick Dorn, who added 13 points with a shooting record of 4 of 13 from the field, including 2 out of 9 from beyond the arc, and capitalized on three free throw attempts. Andrew King further supported the offense by scoring 11 points on an efficient shooting night, going 4 for 7 and hitting 3 out of 5 from three-point range.
For the North Carolina A&T Aggies (4-11, 0-2), Landon Glasper was the standout scorer with 22 points along with two steals. Jahnathan Lamothe also had a strong showing, contributing 16 points while securing seven rebounds and providing five assists, along with two steals. Nikolaos Chitikoudis rounded out the scoring for the Aggies with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks, demonstrating his presence in the paint.
Elon’s solid first-half performance was led by King, who produced 11 points, allowing his team to take a 45-34 advantage into halftime. They continued their momentum in the second half, launching an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 58-42 with 14:25 remaining. Simpkins played a key role in the second half, netting an additional 13 points to help maintain their edge.
