ATLANTA — Dani Carnegie delivered a stellar performance with 28 points while Zoesha Smith notched a double-double, leading the 13th ranked Georgia Tech to an impressive 85-68 victory over Syracuse on Thursday night.
Carnegie showcased her shooting ability, finishing 11-for-18 from the field, including an impressive 6-for-8 from beyond the arc. Smith contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds, playing a key role in the team’s efforts. Tonie Morgan also had a solid game, shooting 6-for-13 for 15 points and adding six assists. Despite a challenging night where she went 2-for-9, Kara Dunn still managed to score 14 points, thanks largely to her 10-for-14 success rate at the free-throw line.
For Syracuse, Georgi Woolley led the scoring with 22 points, while Kyra Wood added 12 points to the total.
The Yellow Jackets (15-0, 3-0 ACC) took advantage of a strong second quarter to build a significant lead over Syracuse (6-7, 0-2), which saw their two-game win streak come to an end. After the first quarter ended in a 16-all tie, Morgan made a three-point play, Ariadna Termis hit a three-pointer, and Smith finished with a tip-in, helping Georgia Tech to a 24-16 lead.
Carnegie extended the lead with a jump shot at 4:28 before halftime, marking the team’s first double-digit lead at 36-25. The Yellow Jackets held a 44-31 advantage at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
As Georgia Tech continues its pursuit of a record high ranking in the program’s history, they are set to face Virginia Tech at home next Thursday. The Yellow Jackets previously reached as high as No. 11 in the Associated Press poll on February 7, 2022.
In their upcoming schedule, Syracuse will face Florida State on Sunday.
