LAKE CHARLES, La. — The McNeese Cowboys secured a decisive victory over the New Orleans Privateers with a score of 86-61 this past Saturday, driven by an impressive performance from DJ Richards, who netted 21 points.
Richards demonstrated his shooting prowess, hitting 7 out of 15 attempts from three-point range. The Cowboys improved their record to 7-5 and celebrated their first win in the Southland Conference, starting the conference season at 1-0.
Supporting Richards, Javohn Garcia contributed 18 points, connecting on 5 of 13 shots, including 2 of 8 from long range, and going a perfect 6 for 6 from the foul line. Joe Charles added to the Cowboys’ offense, scoring 13 points on an efficient 6 of 9 shooting, including one shot from beyond the arc out of four attempts.
For the Privateers, who are struggling with a 2-10 record and have lost six games in a row, James White stood out with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Theo Grant provided additional support with 13 points and two steals, while Jah Short contributed six points along with four assists.
Looking ahead, both teams will be back in action on Monday. The Cowboys are scheduled to face off against SE Louisiana at home, while the Privateers will take on Vanderbilt in an away game.
