VANCOUVER, British Columbia — In an intense matchup on Saturday, Vince Dunn netted his second goal just 2:15 into overtime, helping the Seattle Kraken rally from a three-goal deficit in the third period to secure a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
Jaden Schwartz also made a significant contribution by scoring twice, with his second goal coming just 49 seconds before the end of regulation while the Kraken had their goalie, Philipp Grubauer, on the bench for an extra attacker. Matty Beniers added another goal, playing a crucial role in allowing Seattle to snap a five-game losing streak, while Grubauer recorded 25 saves throughout the match.
For the Canucks, Brock Boeser stood out with two goals, while Conor Garland broke his 13-game goal drought by scoring as well. Jake DeBrusk marked his 500th NHL game with his team-leading 16th goal in the contest. Vancouver’s goalkeeper, Thatcher Demko, managed to stop 16 shots but faced a relentless Kraken offense.
Vancouver was dealt a setback with defenseman Quinn Hughes and center Elias Pettersson sidelined due to undisclosed injuries.
For takeaways, Seattle’s power play struggled once again, going 0 for 3 and only converting three times out of 17 attempts in the last six games. Meanwhile, Vancouver held a record of 1-2-2 in their last five games, and without Hughes, defensemen Carson Soucy and Tyler Myers each logged over 22 minutes of ice time.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred when the Kraken pulled their goalie and managed to score twice within a span of 1:22, forcing the match into overtime.
In terms of individual performance, Boeser notably increased his tally to five goals in just three games.
Looking ahead, the Kraken will be hosting Utah on Monday, while the Canucks are set to face Calgary on Tuesday night.
