ROCK HILL, S.C. — Winthrop’s Nick Johnson played a pivotal role in his team’s 102-97 victory over Mercer on Saturday, scoring a total of 22 points.
Johnson also contributed five rebounds to the Eagles’ efforts, who now hold a record of 10-4. Alongside him, Kasen Harrison made a notable impact with 20 points, thanks to a shooting performance of 7 for 11 from the field, including 1 for 3 from beyond the arc, coupled with 5 for 8 from the free-throw line. Kelton Talford also made significant contributions, finishing the game with 18 points, having shot 4 of 9 from the field and a commendable 10 of 14 from the charity stripe.
On the opposing side, the Mercer Bears, now at 6-6, had their top scorer in Ahmad Robinson, who recorded 27 points along with seven assists. Tyler Johnson supported the team with 19 points, while Angel Montas added 17 points to the tally.
Looking ahead, Winthrop is set to face Indiana on the road this coming Sunday, while Mercer will compete against Georgia State on Saturday.
