PHILADELPHIA — In a thrilling finish, Jamal Mashburn Jr. led the Temple Owls to a narrow victory over the Davidson Wildcats with a final score of 62-61 on Wednesday evening. Mashburn contributed significantly to the game, scoring 19 points while shooting 7 of 16 overall, which included 1 of 4 from beyond the arc, and he was perfect from the free-throw line, making all four attempts.
Elijah Gray was also instrumental in the victory, as he provided the decisive layup with just four seconds left in the game, adding to his 13 points and six rebounds. Quante Berry rounded out the scoring efforts for Temple by hitting 5 of 6 shots from the field, contributing 11 points to the team’s total. The win improved the Owls’ record to 7-4 for the season.
On the other side, Reed Bailey was the standout performer for the Wildcats, scoring an impressive 26 points, while also collecting six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Bobby Durkin supported with a solid performance, putting up 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Despite the strong offensive showing, Davidson fell short and now holds a record of 8-3.
In the first half, Mashburn managed to score 11 points, but Temple went into halftime trailing, with a score of 31-24. The teams are set to compete again this Saturday, with Temple facing off against Rhode Island, while Davidson will host Bethune-Cookman.
