WASHINGTON — In an impressive display, Gerald Drumgoole Jr. scored 30 points, leading George Washington to a decisive 82-62 victory over Lafayette on Wednesday night.
Drumgoole shot an impressive 10 of 15 from the field, including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc, and was also effective at the free-throw line, making 4 of 5 attempts. Supporting him were Trey Autry, who contributed 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting, though he struggled from three-point range, failing to convert on all three attempts. Darren Buchanan Jr. also played a key role with 11 points, shooting 3 of 4 from the field and going a perfect 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.
On Lafayette’s side, the Leopards (5-6) were led by Alex Chaikin, who scored 19 points. Andrew Phillips added another 13 points to the score for Lafayette, while Caleb Williams chipped in with eight points.
George Washington seized control of the game with 6:17 remaining in the first half and maintained their lead throughout. Drumgoole was instrumental in this first-half push, scoring 11 points to help the Revolutionaries establish a solid 36-24 lead at halftime. The second half saw Drumgoole continue to shine, adding 19 more points and guiding his team to outscore the Leopards by eight in that period.
Looking ahead, George Washington is set to compete against Virginia-Wise at home this Sunday, while Lafayette prepares for a matchup with Portland on Saturday.
