The Miami Heat made a deal to send Thomas Bryant to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the opportunity to swap second-round draft picks in the year 2031, as confirmed by both teams on Sunday.

The terms of the trade were settled on Friday, but league regulations stipulated that the move could not be finalized until the weekend.

By acquiring the right to swap picks, the Heat will have the option to select the more advantageous second-round pick in that upcoming draft. Bryant joined the Pacers just in time to participate in their game against New Orleans on Sunday.

During his tenure with Miami this season, Bryant played in 10 games, where he averaged 4.1 points as a bench player. The Pacers mark his fifth franchise, having previously played for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets prior to his time in Miami.

Bryant’s addition addresses a need for a backup center for Indiana, allowing for more depth behind starter Myles Turner. With this trade, the Heat alleviate some overcrowding at the center position, providing playing opportunities for Nikola Jovic and rookie Kel’el Ware, who are vying for backup minutes alongside Bam Adebayo.

For the current season, Bryant is set to earn a salary of $2.1 million.
