Correctional officer detained for drug trafficking allegations

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A security personnel working at an Alabama prison was taken into custody on allegations of drug trafficking, as reported by the state’s correctional system on Thursday.

    Law enforcement officials apprehended Alesia Jarrett on Tuesday, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections. Jarrett serves as a guard at the Elmore Correctional Facility.

    The prison system revealed that Jarrett was discovered with approximately 250 grams of methamphetamine. Her arrest followed an ongoing investigation regarding suspected drug smuggling activities at the facility.

    At this time, court documents have not been made available to determine whether Jarrett has engaged legal representation.

    She faces several charges, including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, promoting contraband within the prison, and an ethics violation involving the misuse of her official position for personal benefits. Jail records indicate that she is currently being held on a bond set at $1.5 million.
