MOBILE, Ala. — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Georgia Southern staged a remarkable comeback against South Alabama by scoring 20 points in the final quarter to secure a 34-30 victory. The Eagles had to overcome a challenging situation as South Alabama dominated the third quarter, amassing 17 points and leading 30-14 as they entered the last 15 minutes of play.

Georgia Southern wasted no time in the fourth quarter, as JC French connected with Josh Dallas on a stunning 45-yard touchdown pass on the very first play, narrowing the gap to 30-20. Soon after, a turnover during the ensuing kickoff, which resulted in a fumble, shifted the momentum. Jalen White took advantage, sprinting for a significant 14-yard gain down to the South Alabama 2-yard line before scoring on the next play, bringing the score to 30-27.

With just over eight minutes left in the game, backup quarterback Dexter Williams II stepped in and delivered a crucial 22-yard touchdown pass to Dalen Cobb, completing the Eagles’ scoring surge and taking the lead at 34-30. South Alabama made a determined effort to regain the advantage, advancing 40 yards in 10 plays and reaching Georgia Southern’s 16-yard line, but their drive was thwarted by consecutive sacks from Da’Shawn Davis and Davon Gilmore, halting it with only 1:54 left on the clock.

Throughout the game, French showcased his skills by completing 22 of 27 passes totaling 198 yards. In addition to the touchdown to Dallas, who ended the day with five receptions for 96 yards, French also connected on a 23-yard touchdown to Dallas earlier in the second quarter. White contributed significantly, rushing for 71 yards on 18 attempts for Georgia Southern, which improved to a record of 6 wins and 3 losses, standing at 4-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.

On the other side, South Alabama, now with a record of 4-5 and 3-2 in the conference, saw Gio Lopez complete 22 of 30 pass attempts for 257 yards, contributing one touchdown alongside an interception. Running back Kentrel Bullock was a standout performer on the ground, accumulating 101 yards on 17 carries, while Fluff Bothwell added two touchdown runs to the team’s effort.
