LAKE CHARLES, La. — In an impressive display of athleticism, Joshon Barbie and Bryce Strong each rushed for over 100 yards, leading McNeese State University to a commanding 31-3 win against Texas A&M Commerce on Saturday night.
Barbie had a standout performance, carrying the ball 20 times for a total of 124 yards, which included a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Strong contributed significantly as well, achieving 121 yards on just 10 carries, highlighted by a remarkable 78-yard touchdown run that widened the Cowboys’ advantage to 14-3 late in the opening period.
As the game progressed, quarterback Kamden Sixkiller connected with Jonathan Harris for a 21-yard touchdown pass right before halftime, extending McNeese’s lead to 24-3 at the break. The final scoring play for the Cowboys came from Devin Lippold, who added a 17-yard touchdown run with just 1:55 left in the third quarter, solidifying their victory.
McNeese State (5-5, 2-3 in the Southland Conference) demonstrated a powerful ground game, amassing a total of 367 rushing yards on 56 attempts throughout the match.
On the opposing side, Ron Peace struggled with his passing, completing 10 of 23 attempts for 138 yards while throwing two interceptions for Texas A&M Commerce (1-8, 1-3). The Lions were only able to score a single field goal, courtesy of Luke Jackson, who successfully converted from 28 yards in the first half.
