Whitt scores 15 as Belmont edges Indiana State 77-75

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Belmont emerged victorious over Indiana State with a final score of 77-75, thanks in part to Carter Whitt’s impressive performance of 15 points.
Whitt was not only a standout scorer but also contributed significantly with nine rebounds and nine assists, showcasing his all-around play for the Bruins, who now hold a record of 19-10 and 11-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Supporting Whitt, Isaiah Walker added 13 points while going 5 for 10 from the field and converting three of four free-throw attempts. Additionally, he contributed eight rebounds and four steals to his team’s effort. Jonathan Pierre also made his mark in the game by scoring 13 points, shooting 40% from the field, including three of six from beyond the three-point line.

On the other side of the court, Camp Wagner was the standout for Indiana State (13-16, 7-11), racking up an impressive 31 points alongside two steals. Kmani Doughty also had a solid performance, contributing 13 points to the Sycamores’ cause. Derek Vorst rounded out the scoring for Indiana State with nine points and matched this with nine rebounds.

Belmont faced a challenging first half, entering halftime with a narrow deficit, trailing 28-26. In the second half, Whitt stepped up, scoring all his points in this period to help propel his team to a crucial two-point victory. The Bruins demonstrated their composure in the final moments by hitting six of eight free throws over the last 30 seconds, which ultimately helped them withstand the pressure from Indiana State and two late three-pointers from Wagner.
