EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – In a showdown on Saturday night, SIU-Edwardsville triumphed over Morehead State with a final score of 65-54, fueled by an impressive performance from Ray’Sean Taylor, who scored 22 points.
Despite shooting only 4 of 14 from the field and 2 of 9 from beyond the arc, Taylor had a standout night at the free-throw line, converting 12 of his 13 attempts. The win improved the Cougars’ record to 14-7 overall and 7-3 within the Ohio Valley Conference. Alongside Taylor, Ring Malith contributed significantly with 14 points and five rebounds, while Brian Taylor II added 12 points, coming off 3 of 12 shooting from the field and making 6 of 8 free throws.
On the opposing side, George Marshall led the Eagles with a strong performance, scoring 18 points and pulling down eight rebounds, along with two steals. Tyler Brelsford matched Marshall’s scoring effort, contributing 18 points as well. Anouar Mellouk chipped in four points. Unfortunately for Morehead State, this loss snapped a five-game winning streak, bringing their record to 13-8 and 8-2 in the conference.
Looking ahead, SIU-Edwardsville is set to take on Lindenwood on the road this Thursday, while Morehead State will face Southern Indiana at home on Tuesday.
