CHICAGO – On Sunday, Tyler Alexander inked a one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. Not long after, he made a swift journey from Milwaukee to Chicago to link up with his new teammates.

Once in Chicago, Alexander wasted no time in getting involved in the action. The left-handed pitcher delivered three innings, allowing just one run during his White Sox debut. Despite his solid performance, the White Sox faced a 7-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals in the series finale.

Reflecting on his busy day, Alexander described the experience as “a whirlwind.”

Originally from Chicago, Alexander is set to celebrate his 31st birthday next month. He was designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers the previous weekend. After clearing waivers, he decided to enter free agency.

During his stint with the Brewers this season, Alexander compiled a 3-5 record with a 6.19 ERA, including one save across 21 outings, four of which were starts. He struck out 30 batters while issuing 12 walks in 36 1/3 innings.

“We had conversations with the White Sox before today, and I was aware that signing could mean pitching today,” Alexander explained. “So I mentally prepared for it. I had already faced the Royals this year, so I just tried to go with the flow.”

In a corresponding roster move, the White Sox placed left-hander Jared Shuster on the 15-day injured list due to a blister on his left hand before their matchup against Kansas City. To create space on the 40-man roster for Alexander, left-hander Fraser Ellard was moved to the 60-day injured list as he deals with a left lat strain.

Throughout his Major League career, Alexander has posted a 20-34 record, along with a 4.66 ERA over 165 games, having also played for the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays.

White Sox manager Will Venable praised Alexander’s ability to adapt, stating, “The guy literally just shows up and steps right into an outing, which is impressive. That speaks to his appeal – he’s experienced, offers a nice mix from the left side, and can handle various roles. We’re excited to have him on board.”
