A teenager has been taken into custody following online harassment directed at Sophia Havertz, the spouse of Arsenal player Kai Havertz, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

After Arsenal’s defeat in the FA Cup to Manchester United on January 12, Sophia Havertz made the disturbing messages she received public. Reports indicate that a 17-year-old male from St Albans, situated north of London, was apprehended based on allegations of engaging in malicious communications, as stated by Hertfordshire Police to local news outlets. The teen has since been released on bail.

In her Instagram story, Sophia revealed two troubling messages, one of which included a threat to harm her unborn child. This distressing incident followed Arsenal’s loss, where the team fell short in the penalty shootout against the reigning Cup champions, Manchester United. During the match, Kai Havertz, who plays as a striker for the German national team, missed a critical opportunity to score and was unable to convert during the shootout as well.
