Three-time world champion surfer Medina has surgery, postpones start of season

Three-time world surfing champion and Olympic bronze medalist Gabriel Medina has announced that he will be postponing the beginning of his surfing season due to an injury.
Medinas shared the news on Instagram, revealing that he sustained a pectoral injury earlier this month while in Brazil, which necessitated surgical intervention.
“Everything went well, and we are now focusing on the recovery timeline and the next steps,” he mentioned.
Medina expressed his disappointment, stating that he had been training vigorously and was eagerly preparing for the upcoming 2025 season; however, he now must prioritize his recovery to return even stronger than before.
The initial segment of the World Surf League (WSL) season is set to kick off on January 27 in Hawaii.
The 31-year-old Brazilian surfer has captured global attention, not just within the surfing community but also among the masses, particularly after a viral image surfaced of him soaring through the air next to his surfboard while exiting a wave during the surfing events at the Paris Olympics last summer.
