FORT WORTH, Texas — In an exhilarating matchup, Noah Reynolds led the way for TCU with 21 points, including a crucial go-ahead basket with just 26 seconds remaining, as the Horned Frogs triumphed over BYU 71-67. This victory marked the end of a 17-game losing streak against the Cougars for TCU.

Supporting Reynolds were Vasean Allette with 11 points and Micah Robinson, who chipped in 10 points for the Horned Frogs, now standing at an overall record of 9-6 with a conference record of 2-2. This win was essential for TCU, which had faced difficulties recently, losing two of its previous three games.

Richie Saunders delivered an impressive performance for BYU, scoring 26 points while shooting 9 for 13 from the field.

With only 36 seconds left in the game, following a timeout, TCU chose to trust Reynolds with the ball. The talented lefty drove toward his preferred side and executed a high shot off the glass over BYU’s Mawot Mag, putting TCU ahead 69-67. In response, BYU’s freshman Egor Demin attempted a challenging three-pointer that fell short. Shortly after, Keba Keita from BYU intentionally fouled freshman Robinson, who calmly sank both free throws with nine seconds left, effectively sealing the game for TCU.

The first half showcased exhilarating runs from both teams. After Trevin Knell from BYU tied the game at 23 with a three-pointer at the 7:46 mark of the half, TCU quickly surged with a 10-0 run, highlighted by three-point shots from Brendan Wenzel and Reynolds, along with a jump shot and a dunk from Ernest Udeh Jr., all occurring in under two minutes.

However, BYU retaliated with a formidable 14-0 run, which included two three-pointers and a layup from Saunders, granting them a 37-33 lead. TCU managed to score only once in the final five minutes of the half, with Trazarien White converting one of two free throw attempts just before halftime.

Currently, BYU holds a record of 10-5 and is on a three-game losing streak. Notably, TCU’s previous victory against BYU occurred in 1997, coinciding with a season when BYU recorded just one win against 25 losses.

The upcoming schedule will see BYU host Oklahoma State on Tuesday, while TCU will be welcoming Utah on Wednesday.
