SALT LAKE CITY — Trevin Knell led BYU to a convincing 68-49 triumph over Wyoming on Saturday evening at the Delta Center, finishing the game with 15 points.
Knell was impressive, hitting 6 of his 7 field goal attempts, including three 3-pointers, contributing significantly to the Cougars’ (8-2) success.
The BYU bench made a substantial impact, with Mawot Mag and Dawson Baker both adding 11 points, allowing the Cougars’ reserves to outscore their Wyoming counterparts 37-14.
For the Cowboys (5-5), Obi Agbim was the standout player, scoring 21 points while shooting 8 of 12 from the field, including three 3-pointers.
Knell quickly made his presence felt, scoring seven points in the opening minutes as BYU jumped out to an early 11-0 lead.
Elijah Crawford then added to their advantage with a 3-pointer, making it 27-13 with just under ten minutes left in the first half.
Before halftime, Agbim managed to close the gap for Wyoming, hitting a 3-pointer with 37 seconds remaining, reducing the deficit to 34-25 at the break.
The second half began with Kanon Catchings scoring two free throws, and Knell followed up with a 3-pointer that pushed BYU’s lead to 14 points.
The Cougars maintained a comfortable lead, remaining ahead by double digits for the remainder of the game.
BYU demonstrated solid shooting, connecting on 52% of their overall attempts, including 9 of 20 from three-point range, and converting 11 of 14 from the free-throw line.
In contrast, Wyoming struggled with their shooting, finishing with 42% overall, and they missed 18 of 24 attempts from beyond the arc, along with 5 of 8 from the foul line.
Next up for BYU is a home game against Florida A&M on Friday, while Wyoming will host Bellarmine on Thursday.
