BOSTON — Following a 4-3 defeat in overtime against the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella expressed his frustration over several officiating decisions during his postgame comments.
Tortorella began by highlighting an important lesson he imparts to his players: the importance of not diving in order to gain advantages. “Let me start: One thing I teach my team to do is not dive… Maybe I should start teaching them that. The way this has gone here … maybe I should teach them to dive,” he remarked, indicating his displeasure with how the game unfolded.
During the game, the Flyers were penalized for tripping twice in the third period, although those penalties did not result in any goals. Earlier in the match, a tripping penalty against them did lead to a goal by the Bruins in the second period.
The Bruins managed to score twice in the third period, marking their fourth consecutive victory. This loss also represented the second consecutive game in which Philadelphia let slip a lead in the final period.
“I’m not going to go too far into it,” Tortorella added when discussing the penalties. “That’s one of the things we talk about as a team: ‘We’ve got to play an honest game. There’s no cheating, there’s no embarrassing referees. You don’t embarrass the referees.’”
