CLEVELAND — The NFL has concluded its inquiry into the sexual assault claims made against Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
The investigation lasted for several months as the league sought to ascertain whether there would be grounds for penalizing Watson.
“The matter is closed,” stated league spokesperson Brian McCarthy via email. “There was inadequate evidence to warrant a determination of a breach of the personal conduct policy.”

Watson faced allegations of assault from a woman in Texas last September, who was pursuing over $1 million in damages.
However, both parties came to a confidential agreement that resolved the matter.
Watson has consistently denied the accusations through his legal counsel, Rusty Hardin.
The 29-year-old athlete suffered a significant Achilles injury in October, which ended his season.
He is currently undergoing rehabilitation with hopes of playing again next year.

Despite his challenges on the field, the Browns remain committed to Watson financially, being obligated to pay him $46 million for each of the next two seasons.
This obligation is part of the fully guaranteed $230 million contract that has proven problematic for the organization thus far.
Throughout his tenure with the Browns, Watson has participated in only 19 games over the span of three seasons due to the suspension and various injuries.
