HUEHUETOCA, Mexico — In a tragic incident, gunmen opened fire in a bar located in central Mexico, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals and injuring seven others, according to officials.
The shooting occurred on Saturday in the historic downtown area of Querétaro, a region that, until recently, had avoided the violent outbreaks seen in neighboring areas like Guerrero. However, Querétaro has witnessed a worrying rise in violent episodes in recent years, generating alarm among local authorities.
Juan Luis Ferrusca Ortiz, who oversees public security in the city, confirmed the details of the attack and the total number of casualties. He added that at least one suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Authorities were able to identify the attackers by tracking the vehicle’s license plates that the gunmen used to flee the scene; this car was subsequently located, abandoned, and set ablaze.
Footage from two security cameras in the bar, which circulated online, depicts a group of four individuals entering the premises and indiscriminately firing upon patrons dining at various tables. The harrowing video captures the chaos, with terrified individuals screaming and attempting to shield themselves, stained with the blood of the victims.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Querétaro’s Governor Mauricio Kuri expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for the victims, pledging to support the families affected by the tragedy.
“Those responsible for this barbaric act will face consequences,” Kuri proclaimed in a message on the social media platform X early Sunday morning.
