STOUGHTON, Wis. – A pizza incident involving unintended THC contamination has reportedly led to several individuals falling ill in Wisconsin.
Health authorities in Dane County revealed that Famous Yeti’s Pizza, located in Stoughton—approximately 20 miles southeast of Madison—served the tainted pizzas between Monday and Thursday. On Thursday, paramedics informed health officials that they had recently transported five individuals who experienced adverse effects after dining at the pizzeria.
According to health officials, they have received numerous reports from people who developed symptoms after consuming the pizza, and they continue to collect information. A comprehensive report detailing the total number of reported cases will be released in due course.
The situation arose when a restaurant cook, in need of oil, mistakenly accessed a shared kitchen and inadvertently selected a jug that contained Delta-9, a variant of THC. While marijuana use remains illegal in Wisconsin, products derived from hemp, which include THC, are permitted. This specific oil can be utilized in a variety of food items, including snacks and sauces.
Symptoms associated with THC can range from dizziness and high blood pressure to nausea, anxiety, paranoia, and even hallucinations.
Cale Ryan, a co-owner of Famous Yeti’s Pizza, shared with local media that the cook unintentionally grabbed the wrong bottle of oil. He confirmed that one batch of dough capable of producing 60 pizzas was affected. Ryan also noted that he has been contacted by around 20 customers who experienced negative effects.
“They get extremely high,” he said, pointing out that the experience can be disconcerting for those unaware they were consuming THC. “It’s like consuming an edible without any prior knowledge.”
