CHICAGO — Pittsburgh Pirates’ catcher Endy Rodríguez is set to receive a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection as a treatment for his problematic right elbow.
After seeking a second opinion, Dodgers’ team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache advised the procedure during a consultation in Los Angeles.
According to Pirates manager Don Kelly, “The recommendation was for a PRP injection that he’ll get next week and then four weeks of complete rest before he starts to ramp back up.”
This was shared prior to the Pirates’ game against the Chicago Cubs and indicates a significant recovery period ahead for Rodríguez.

The 25-year-old player, who also fills in at first base when needed, was initially placed on the 10-day injured list on June 7 because of issues related to elbow inflammation.
His situation was further complicated as he was moved to the 60-day injured list this past Friday.
In the current season, Rodríguez has batted an average of .173, collecting 9 hits out of 52 at-bats during 18 games.
He previously faced a setback from April 15 to May 28 due to a lacerated right index finger, reflecting an injury-riddled season thus far.
