In Ohio, marijuana businesses are facing fines for violating state advertising regulations, as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. The Division of Cannabis Control in Ohio has proposed fines totaling $212,000 against five businesses for breaching the state’s advertising guidelines for marijuana sellers. The majority of the fines were related to promotions conducted this summer in anticipation of recreational marijuana sales starting on August 6.
One of the businesses, Greenleaf Apothecaries, which has dispensaries in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Columbus, and Wickliffe, received the largest proposed fine of $150,000. State regulators cited violations such as distributing food and drinks from an ice cream truck, promoting “Free Ice Cream” on social media, and displaying a sign that was not authorized by the state.
The violations also included the usage of signs that were either too large or not properly approved by the state. Greenleaf Apothecaries issued a statement acknowledging that they take the regulations seriously and expressing a desire to come to a resolution with the state about the fines.
Overall, the state of Ohio is cracking down on marijuana businesses for advertising practices that do not align with state regulations. These fines serve as a reminder to marijuana sellers in Ohio to adhere to the advertising rules set forth by the Division of Cannabis Control.
