Brayan Bello put on an impressive performance leading the Boston Red Sox to a 3-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Bello pitched a career-high eight innings, allowing only two hits while striking out nine batters and walking one. This win marked just his second victory in eight starts since the All-Star break. It was a notable improvement for the 25-year-old right-handed pitcher who had never pitched more than 24 outs in a game before.
Tyler O’Neill’s home run, Masataka Yoshida’s three hits, and Kenley Jansen’s flawless ninth-inning pitching for his 25th save all contributed to Boston’s win. The Red Sox rebounded with two consecutive wins over Toronto after being swept in most of a doubleheader earlier in the week.
On the opposing side, Chris Bassitt pitched well for the Blue Jays, allowing only one run on five hits and a walk while striking out nine in six and two-thirds innings. However, O’Neill’s two-run homer off reliever Brendon Little in the eighth inning extended Boston’s lead to 3-0.
The Red Sox took the lead early in the game with Jarren Duran scoring on Wilyer Abreu’s single in the first inning. Despite a seventh-inning rally by the Blue Jays, Boston’s defense held strong, retaining their 1-0 lead until the eighth inning when O’Neill’s homer sealed the victory.
The upcoming series finale will feature Toronto’s Bowden Francis facing off against Boston’s Kutter Crawford on Thursday.
