Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the 2025 state budget will allocate a record amount for defense spending. Tusk emphasized that the budget for next year is aimed at fostering economic growth and was described as “generous.” The planned defense spending for next year is set at 186 billion zlotys ($48.5 billion), highlighting a significant increase to enhance the nation’s defense, particularly due to heightened security concerns amid the neighboring conflict in Ukraine.

During a news conference, Tusk expressed the necessity of this substantial budget allocation, stating that it signifies a considerable rise from the 2024 defense budget, which already accounted for over 4% of Poland’s GDP. Tusk underscored the importance of maintaining and strengthening defense capabilities, stressing that such a step is crucial and irreversible in the current security landscape.
