Prince Harry can remain in Montecito without fear of deportation, as President Donald Trump has confirmed he has no plans to remove the self-exiled royal from the United States.
The Duke of Sussex’s immigration status has been the subject of legal challenges, with the Heritage Foundation alleging he may have concealed past drug use that could have disqualified him from obtaining a U.S. visa. Despite the controversy, Trump has made it clear that he will not take action against Harry.
Trump says Harry has ‘enough problems’
“I don’t want to do that,” Trump told The New York Post on Friday. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
The former president also took the opportunity to praise Prince William, whom he met privately in Paris last December during the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
“I think William is a great young man,” Trump said.
Harry and Meghan have criticized Trump
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been vocal critics of Trump, with Meghan previously calling him “divisive” and “misogynistic.” In response, Trump has mocked Harry, claiming he is “whipped” by Meghan and suggesting she controls their relationship.
Heritage Foundation lawsuit questions visa
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has sued the Department of Homeland Security, citing Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, in which he admitted to using cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelics. The lawsuit argues that Harry’s past drug use should have disqualified him from obtaining a U.S. visa and raises concerns about whether he was truthful on his application.
“Anyone who applies to the United States has to be truthful on their application, and it is not clear that is the case with Prince Harry,” Heritage’s Nile Gardiner told The Daily Telegraph.
The lawsuit suggests that Harry may have received preferential treatment from the Biden administration when he and Meghan moved to California in 2020 after stepping down from royal duties.
