FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — On Saturday night, Montana triumphed over Northern Arizona with a close score of 83-80, primarily due to a remarkable performance by Kai Johnson, who scored 22 points.
Johnson not only excelled in scoring but also contributed significantly in other areas with five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals, helping the Grizzlies improve their record to 17 wins and 8 losses, alongside a strong 10-2 standing in the Big Sky Conference. Money Williams added to the scoreboard with a solid performance, hitting 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and making 2 of 3 free throws. Additionally, Malik Moore supported the team’s efforts with 14 points, shooting 5 for 8 and hitting 2 of his 3 three-point attempts, further securing the Grizzlies’ sixth consecutive victory.
On the other side, the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona, now with a record of 14 wins and 11 losses and 5-7 in conference play, were led by Trenton McLaughlin, who contributed 19 points along with five assists. Jayden Jackson scored 16 points for the Lumberjacks, while Carson Towt made his mark with a double-double, finishing with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.
Looking ahead, both Montana and Northern Arizona are set to compete on Thursday. Montana will be facing Idaho State at home, while the Lumberjacks will travel to take on Portland State.
