A devastating fire at a Dallas shopping mall on Friday morning left over 500 animals dead, most of them small birds. The fire broke out at the Plaza Latina Bazaar, causing widespread damage and panic. Thankfully, no human injuries were reported, but the toll on the animals was heart-wrenching.
Animal Rescue Efforts
Dallas Animal Services quickly responded, removing a total of 579 animals. This included small birds, chickens, hamsters, two dogs, and two cats. Sadly, despite efforts to save them, all the animals inside the pet shop perished due to smoke inhalation.
Cause of the Fire remains unknown
The fire’s cause is still unknown, and authorities are investigating. While the flames did not reach the pet shop, thick smoke filled the store, trapping the animals inside. Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) teams attempted to rescue the animals, but the smoke proved too deadly.
Safe Escape for Humans
Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson, shared that despite the fire’s intense damage, no human lives were lost. “Three people were inside when the fire started. Luckily, they escaped safely thanks to the building’s fire alarm and sprinkler system,” Evans confirmed.
Severe structural Damage
The fire caused severe structural damage to the building. The roof partially collapsed, leaving a trail of destruction. The Plaza Latina Bazaar, which sells a variety of goods including exotic animals, has been left reeling from the aftermath.
