Former First Lady Michelle Obama playfully teased her husband, former President Barack Obama, during a recent interview about their holiday plans, calling him “cheap” and hard to shop for. In a sneak peek from her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Michelle humorously explained that Barack’s simple lifestyle—centered on golf—makes him a challenging gift recipient.
“I mean, he just doesn’t do much,” Michelle joked, adding, “There’s only so many golf clubs you can get a dude.” She shared that Barack doesn’t typically want gifts and would be content with something as simple as a heartfelt letter.
Recounting a past experience, Michelle revealed how she once gifted him a nice jacket, only for Barack to question how much it cost. “I was like, ‘That’s what a gift is,’” she quipped, underscoring his frugality.
Despite the challenge of shopping for her husband, Michelle confidently described herself as the best gift-giver in the family, proudly managing all the holiday preparations and ensuring everyone on their list is covered.
Michelle also shared that the Obamas spend Christmas in Hawaii, Barack’s home state, a tradition that began when their daughters, Malia (26) and Sasha (23), were young. “We do Thanksgiving with my family, but for Christmas… we’ve been going to Hawaii,” she said, joking that Barack’s Hawaiian roots were part of his charm when they first met.
