White House is blaming hobbyists, planes and even the stars for the ‘misidentifications’

0

The White House has offered a major update regarding the mysterious drone sightings over New Jersey, suggesting that the reported incidents are likely misidentifications of lawful hobbyist drones, commercial aircraft, and even stars. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby addressed the mounting concerns, emphasizing that investigations have found no evidence of a “national security or public safety threat” or any foreign involvement so far.

Kirby pointed out that with over 1 million drones registered in the United States, a large number are legally operated by hobbyists, law enforcement, and commercial users. He added that the FBI received approximately 5,000 reports in recent weeks, with 100 deemed worthy of further investigation. Despite growing public pressure, Kirby maintained that federal agencies, including the Pentagon, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, continue to monitor the situation.

The statement comes amid bipartisan frustration, with lawmakers such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and New Jersey Rep. Mikie Sherrill demanding clearer answers. Schumer has called for advanced drone-detection technologies to be deployed across the Northeast and criticized the lack of transparency, questioning why “we have more questions than answers.”

Donald Trump also weighed in, calling the situation “strange” and criticizing the government’s delayed response. Meanwhile, New Jersey residents remain on edge, particularly as drones have reportedly been seen near sensitive military installations, such as the Naval Weapons Station Earle.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas further noted that new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules may be contributing to increased sightings, as pilots are now required to use visible identification technology. Still, concerns persist over potential gaps in drone-tracking capabilities and the lack of conclusive answers to the public’s questions.
