ESPN NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski has announced his retirement from broadcasting in order to return to St. Bonaventure, his alma mater. St. Bonaventure revealed on Wednesday that Wojnarowski will assume the newly established role of general manager for the men’s basketball program within the Atlantic 10 school.
In his new position, Wojnarowski will work closely with coach Mark Schmidt and his team, overseeing a variety of tasks such as managing name, image, and likeness opportunities, handling the transfer portal, recruiting efforts, and nurturing relationships with alumni players.
Expressing his excitement about the opportunity, Wojnarowski stated in a release from the Allegany, New York, school, “I’m thrilled and humbled to return to St. Bonaventure with an opportunity to serve the university.” He also mentioned his intention to incorporate lessons learned from successful NBA franchises and professionals to benefit the players on and off the court on a global scale.
Having graduated from St. Bonaventure with a journalism degree in 1991, Wojnarowski was honored with a doctorate from the same institution in 2022. Despite being under contract with ESPN since 2017, the 55-year-old journalist has decided to retire from his broadcasting role to undertake this new venture at his alma mater.
