A North Dakota lawmaker, Republican state Rep. Claire Cory of Grand Forks, has entered into a plea agreement after being charged with driving under the influence following her arrest in May. The 25-year-old legislator pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving on July 2, as both DUI and reckless driving are considered misdemeanors. While Cory was initially facing a 12-day jail sentence, it has been suspended, contingent upon her payment of a fine and completion of a chemical dependency evaluation, according to a report by KVRR-TV.
Cory, who is currently in the midst of an election campaign for another term, was stopped by police around 1 a.m. on May 7. Authorities reported that a breath test conducted at the time indicated her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
