MIAMI — The Miami Marlins, powered by a home run from Kyle Stowers, clinched a 2-0 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, marking their eighth consecutive win. This streak is just one short of the team’s all-time high, established in 2008.

Edward Cabrera delivered an impressive performance on the mound for the Marlins, allowing only two hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out six batters. This outing is the longest by any Marlins’ pitcher this season. Cabrera reached a significant milestone by striking out Byron Buxton in the third inning, notching his 400th career strikeout, and becoming the third-quickest to achieve this milestone in the club’s history.

Stowers opened the scoring with his 14th home run of the year in the second inning. Initially, he was awarded first base after seemingly being hit by a pitch, but Minnesota’s challenge overturned the call. Miami’s relievers kept the lead intact with Anthony Bender delivering a flawless eighth inning. Ronny Henriquez contributed by striking out consecutive batters in the ninth to secure his fourth save of the season.

Minnesota’s starting pitcher Joe Ryan also put in a strong performance over seven innings, giving up one earned run on five hits. Nonetheless, the Twins’ offense struggled, enduring their seventh shutout of the season. They recently failed to score against the Tigers on Sunday as well.

Miami further extended their advantage in the eighth inning. Jesús Sánchez hit a deep shot to center field, which Byron Buxton nearly contained at the wall, winding up in a review that ruled it was not a home run. Sánchez reached third base as a result. An intentional walk was issued to Otto Lopez, placing runners on the corners. A subsequent hit from Nick Fortes down the left field line expanded Miami’s lead to two runs.

The Marlins registered their fifth shutout of the year with this win. They are set to face the Twins again with right-handed pitcher Janson Junk (2-0, 3.73 ERA) on the mound for the first time, countering Twins’ right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (3-4, 4.63) on Wednesday night.
