BOSTON – In a turn of events, the second game of the three-game series between the Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox was suspended due to inclement weather. With Boston holding a narrow 2-1 advantage as they moved into the fourth inning on Tuesday night, rain played spoilsport, prompting a day-night doubleheader to accommodate the continuation of the game.
The halted match is scheduled to resume on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., and the concluding game of the series is set to begin at 7:10 p.m.
The game faced an abrupt stop after umpires cleared the field when lightning was observed nearby. The subsequent downpour made play impossible, leading to an official suspension after a delay lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes.
During the play, Jarren Duran kickstarted Boston’s efforts with a leadoff double against Brady Singer, followed by an RBI double from Roman Anthony that secured Boston’s lead. Carlos Narváez further extended the advantage with a one-out RBI single. On the opposite side, Cincinnati initiated the third inning with consecutive singles delivered by Will Benson and Christian Encarnacion-Strand against pitcher Richard Fitts. Matt McClain then posted an RBI ground out to narrow the scoreline.
Looking ahead, Cincinnati has slated RHP Nick Martinez (5-8, 4.12 ERA) to take the mound for the scheduled match on Wednesday. Martinez will be keen to rebound following last week’s thwarted no-hit bid against San Diego. Facing him from the Red Sox lineup will be RHP Brayan Bello (3-3, 3.41 ERA), prepared to challenge the Cincinnati lineup.
