MANCHESTER, England — On Monday, former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans made a significant announcement, marking the end of his illustrious soccer career, which was highlighted by three Premier League titles. The 37-year-old player will now embrace a new chapter at Manchester United, where he will focus on overseeing loans and player development.

“I am announcing my retirement from my playing career,” Evans shared, “but I do so with pride, gratitude, and excitement for what lies ahead.” Evans became a free agent after concluding his second tenure at United, where he initially came up through the club’s academy. Over the years, he also contributed his skills to West Bromwich Albion and Leicester. On the international stage, he proudly represented Northern Ireland in 107 matches. In addition to his league triumphs, Evans’ trophy cabinet includes the FA Cup and two English League Cups.

Currently, Evans is in the process of completing his coaching qualifications. He has assumed the role of head of loans and pathways at Manchester United, a position that aligns with his future ambitions. United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Evans, saying, “Jonny, having just finished his exceptional playing career, is the perfect role model for our young players. His in-depth understanding of what it takes to succeed at Manchester United will be immensely beneficial as we continue to cultivate world-class talent ready to excel in our first team.”
