PHOENIX — In a heartfelt Father’s Day moment, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo received an amusing gift from his son, Nick Lovullo. Nick, who manages the High-A South Bend Cubs, shared an entertaining anecdote with his father regarding his actions during Sunday’s game against Fort Wayne in the Midwest League.

Nick called his dad to share the news with a chuckle, informing him, “Hey dad, I wanted to wish you a Happy Father’s Day by following in your footsteps.” Nick humorously recounted how he found himself ejected from the game. He playfully told his dad that he ‘threw out’ every umpire in a nod to the memorable event involving his father.

The Arizona Diamondbacks manager had previously stirred the pot last month during a game against San Francisco. In a moment that grabbed headlines, Torey was ejected after passionately arguing an obstruction call. He then theatrically pointed at each of the four crew members and mimicked tossing them out of the game. Reflecting on the incident afterward, Torey admitted that the officials had, in fact, made the correct call, conceding, “Umpires are good. I stand corrected.”

During South Bend’s narrow 5-4 defeat to Fort Wayne, Nick Lovullo was actually ejected in the second inning. Despite claiming to have given all the umpires the toss, in reality, he humorously mimicked ejecting just the one responsible for his removal. This light-hearted moment between father and son highlights the strong family bond and a shared love for baseball, intertwined with a touch of humor.
